Hi Everyone!
The Israel Antiquities Authority unveiled a rare ancient seal that underscores the bond of the Jewish people to Jerusalem. The tiny seal, that likely certified the purity of ritual objects used in the Second Temple, was discovered in an excavation near the Temple Mount.

The Giant Chanukiah in Mevaseret Adumim
Hi Everyone!
This evening, 2nd candle lighting of Chanukah, a group of enthusiastic youths and adults from Ma'ale Adumim built a giant Chanukiah in Mevaseret Adumim.
The Chanukiah was made with approximately 400 candles with sand in falafel bags placed on the side of the mountain. Anyone traveling tonight and tomorrow night on the Jerusalem - Dea Sea highway will be able to see the lit Chanukiah. This is a unique way to publicize the miracle of Chanukah.
Photos of the above can be seen at:

and a 10 minute video can be viewed at:

27 years in Israel
Hi Everyone!
27 years ago, on August 30, 1984, I made aliyah. It was one day after my English birthday and I remember that my uncle came to meet me at the airport.
I did not take photos and I do not remember anyone else there. However, it was one of the most important days of my life and it was the start of a great adventure.
This is the place were Jewish history is being made and I believe that this is the only place to really live a full Jewish life.
May the aliyah from all over the world grow and bring more Jews back to their homeland, Eretz Yisrael.
Chodesh Tov,
Jacob

Shalom.
Tisha B'Av is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar because of the incredible series of tragedies which occurred on that date throughout Jewish History.
Tisha B'Av means "the ninth (day) of the Hebrew month of Av." Tisha B'Av primarily commemorates the destruction of the first and second Temples, both of which were destroyed on the ninth of Av (the first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.E.; the second by the Romans in 70 C.E.).
Although this day is primarily meant to commemorate the destruction of the Temple, it is appropriate to consider on this day the many other tragedies of the Jewish people, many of which occurred on this day, most notably the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492.
You can learn more about this Jewish fast day (begins Monday evening, August 8, 2011) at:
http://www.jr.co.il/hotsites/j-hdayav.htm
May we see the rebuilding of the Temple in our days and that Tisha B'Av becomes a day of celebration.
If you are fasting: Have a meaningful fast.
