Educational Resources about Tisha B'Av

Shalom.

Tisha B'Av is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar because
of the incredible series of tragedies which occurred on that
date throughout Jewish History.

Tisha B'Av means "the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av".
Tisha B'Av primarily commemorates the destruction of the first
and second Temples, both of which were destroyed on the ninth
of Av - the first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.E.; the second
by the Romans in 70 C.E.

Although this day is primarily meant to commemorate the
destruction of the Temple, it is appropriate to consider on
this day the many other tragedies of the Jewish people, many
of which occurred on this day, most notably the expulsion of
the Jews from Spain in 1492.

This year 5785 - 2025 we observe the fast day of Tisha B'Av
starting from Saturday after nightfall, August 2,
until nightfall on Sunday, August 3.

Jerusalem Psalms in Rami Levy Supermarket and 3 Weeks - Tisha B'Av Resources

 Hi Everyone!

This evening, I went shopping at the Rami Levy Supermarket 

in Mishor Adumim. As I was waiting at the checkout counter,

I looked up and saw Jerusalem Psalms banners along the

front of the store. Almost 39 years in Israel and I still get

a kick out of these special "Only in Israel" moments.

Today was the 17th of Tamuz - the beginning of the three weeks

mourning period of the destruction of the Holy Temple.

Today, the Mahane Yehuda street market in Jerusalem started

the celebrations in honor of 100 years in business.

I decided in the late afternoon to go for a visit and I took photos

of the market and the entertainment.

Photos of Purim in Jerusalem

 Hi Everyone!

I did a lot of walking today in Jerusalem and I had a lot of fun

watching various performers and seeing the creative costumes 

that people wore. 

I started at Kikar Safra - City Hall, then up Yaffo street

to the Midrachov and then continued to Machane Yehuda.

I then took the light rail back to city hall to take more photos.

I saw one girl dressed up as Wednesday Adams. She looked

very "Adams" and even had "thing" with her. However, she did not want 

to be photographed. Stayed in character all the way.

At the end of my walk, I took a unique photo near the 

City Hall light rail station. Did you know that Jerusalem

has a street called "Shushan" ?

Hi Everyone!

Today, Wednesday October 16 - Chol HaMoed Sukkot, I went to Jerusalem to enjoy the chag and to take photos.
I started with the Jerusalem Light Rail Sukkah at Ammunition Hill and then I went to the large Sukkah at
City Hall in Kikar Safra. I continued my walk to the "World Taste Festival" that is taking place along the outside wall of the old city.
From there I walked through Mamila Mall and then to Yaffo Street. At Kikar Tzion I walked up Ben Yehuda Street and I enjoyed the free entertainment on each block. It was really nice. Kol Hakavod to the mayor and city staff for an enjoyable day.

Videos and photos of the International Festival of Light in Jerusalem

Hi Everyone!

Last night, I went to the opening night of the International Festival of Light exhibition in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The exhibition is open from 8:00pm to 11:00pm till July 6. I did not get to view all the light exhibits. Expect to spend at
least 2-3 hours walking around. If you have limited time, make sure to view exhibit #22 called Solaris at the Hurva Square.
I took a video of this unique audio-visual display which was projected on the side wall of the Hurva Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter.

In addition to the Festival of Light, outside the Old City walls near Yaffo Gate there was a special light and audio show in honor of the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem. I took a video of the first part which includes a brief history of Jerusalem.

Photos of Yom Yerushalayim in the Old City

Hi Everyone!

Today, 28th of Iyar, I went to the Old City of Jerusalem to take photos in honor of Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day).Due to the hot weather, I decided not to do the flag march.
I arrived in the Old City about 7pm - about an hour before the flag marchers started to flow in. Within 2 hours, the Kotel plaza went from half empty to a full house.
