Photos of The Giant Chanukiah in Mevaseret Adumim
Hi Everyone!
On Monday night, 6th candle lighting of Chanukah, a group of
enthusiastic youths from Maale Adumim built a giant
Chanukiah in Mevaseret Adumim.
The Chanukiah was made with approximately 400 tealight
candles with sand in falafel bags placed on the side of the mountain.
This was a unique way to publicize the miracle of Chanukah.
Thanks to Chava Docks who sent me the photos which I placed online at:
www.jr.co.il/ma/pic/2013/ma831.htm
Enjoy the photos.

Educational Resources about Tisha B'Av
Shalom.
Tisha B'Av is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar because
of the incredible series of tragedies which occurred on that
date throughout Jewish History.
Tisha B'Av means "the ninth (day) of the Hebrew month of Av."
Tisha B'Av primarily commemorates the destruction of the first
and second Temples, both of which were destroyed on the ninth
of Av (the first by the Babylonians in 586 B.C.E.; the second
by the Romans in 70 C.E.).
Although this day is primarily meant to commemorate the
destruction of the Temple, it is appropriate to consider on
this day the many other tragedies of the Jewish people, many
of which occurred on this day, most notably the expulsion of
the Jews from Spain in 1492.
You can learn more about this Jewish fast day (begins Monday
evening, July 15, 2013) at:
www.jr.co.il/hotsites/j-hdayav.htm
May we see the rebuilding of the Temple in our days and that
Tisha B'Av becomes a day of celebration.
If you are fasting:
Have a meaningful fast.

New Video: Learn Hebrew Phrases - Days and Time
Hi Everyone!
I created a new learn Hebrew video about days and time.
The video includes 16 Hebrew phrases with Hebrew audio,
Hebrew text with vowels, English translations and transliterations.
What time is it?
The time is 2:30
There is news on the radio every half hour.
The movie starts in ten minutes.
I warmed up the roll in the microwave for 30 seconds.
The first bus in the morning leaves at 6:15.
Today was the tomorrow of yesterday.
The Israeli work week starts on Sunday.
Our supermarket has a sale on fruit and vegetables every Tuesday.
Thursday night the stores are open till a late hour.
On Friday I buy Chalot for Shabbat.
I do not work on Shabbat. (f)
Independents pay taxes every fifteenth of the month.
The telephone bill comes once every two months,
and that is why it is called bi-monthly.
We pay the city tax every quarter (of the year).
Every year I have a birthday.
You can view the video on the website at:

8th Century BCE King's Seal at the Israel Museum
Hi Everyone!
Today, I was in the Israel Museum taking photos for a project I am working on. I have not been to the museum in many years and I was amazed. I spent four hours there and I did not get to see everything. The Judaica section is especially interesting including re-creations of several synagogues from around the world.
If you have not visited the museum recently, it is definitely worth spending a day there. The entrance fee includes a wireless audio device (in several languages) to listen to descriptions of various exhibits. Very nice application.
While I was visiting the museum, I was also looking for an 8th century BCE king's seal that my grandmother, Shoshana Richman z"l, donated over 35 years ago in memory of my grandfather z"l Jacob Richman.
I found it and posted photos at:
www.jr.co.il/pictures/king-seal.htm
I also posted the photos in a Facebook album at:
http://bit.ly/king-seal
I saw a black and white photo of the seal but this is the first time I saw the actual seal. Very Cool!
Have a good night,
Jacob
